Our Visits & Collaborations

 The Department of English Linguistics was created and established on 28 June 2021 but the Teaching Faculty in the discipline of English Linguistics at the Islamia University Bahawalpur has been expanding the frontiers of the discipline since 2003 or even before. After its establishment, under the patronage of Prof. Dr Athar Mahboob (T.I), the worthy Vice-Chancellor,  The Islamia University Bahawalpur and Dr Jawed Hassaan Chandio, Dean of Faculty of Arts & Languages, the department developed rapidly and started its contributions in the development the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in terms publications of research papers, organization of conferences, seminars,  webinars & cultural events. Dr Riaz Hussain led the department in forging links and collaborations with other departments and universities. Here are a few glimpses of the collaborations of the Department of English Linguistics with other departments. 





  Participation in a Research Workshop Organized by GSCWUS Bahawalpur

The faculty of the Department of English Linguistics participated in a training workshop on “Research Methods in ELT” organized by the Department of English, Govt. Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur in collaboration with Pak TESOL (South Punjab Chapter). The teaching faculty of the Department had three intensive training sessions with Prof. Dr Saiqa Imtiaz Asif, the Vice-Chancellor, Govt. Sadiq College Women University, Prof. Dr Fauzia Shamim, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Ziauddin University, Karachi, and Prof. Dr Sajida Zaki, Chairperson, Humanities NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi. We also had a fruitful session titled “Reimagine Education in the Post-Pandemic World” by Mr Abbas Hussain.


Seminar on Translation Day 2021 “United in Translation”

The Department of English Linguistic, IUB Collaborated with the Department of Translation Studies, IUB and helped in the organization of a seminar entitled “United in Translation” on September 30, 2021. The seminar highlighted the importance of translation from a historical and Islamic world perspective. In this regard, Dr Riaz Hussain, Head Department of English Linguistics elaborated on the history of Translation, the rise of the Greek and Roman Empires and the role of translation in the scientific development in the Islamic countries before the arrival of Mongols in Baghdad. Liaqat Ali Gillani Assistant Commissioner (General) Bahawalpur and Allah Bakhsh Kaliar, Member Islamic Ideological Council were the guests of honour at the event. Faculty members and students attended the seminar held at the Faculty Auditorium of the Faculty of Islamic Learning. 


Visit to Three Universities in Turkey

Dr Riaz Hussain, Head, Department of English Linguistics of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur attended the Third International ULEAD Conference on Research in Applied Linguistics - ICRAL 2019, hosted by Selçuk University, on October 24 - 26, 2019 in Konya, Turkey.  At the conference, he presented his research on Computer-Assisted Language Learning entitled “A Comparative Study on the Effects of Indigenized and non-indigenized Spoken English CALL materials”. His talk was appreciated by the Chair. In addition, Our linguist also gave lectures on the areas of Stylistics and Lexicology at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education, Istiklal Campus,, Burdur, Turkey. Furthermore, our faculty member also visited the department of English at Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya and had professional interactions with the faculty of the department of English there. Dr Hussain’s academic visit spanned nine days and three Turkish universities. It was marked by the ubiquitous hospitality of the Turkish people.  The faculty members in the above-mentioned three Turkish Universities expressed their deep, brotherly and time-honoured love for Pakistan and showed their interest in working with universities in Pakistan in different areas of research in the domains of language and linguistics.  

COURSES FOR UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
