Under the patronage of Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Worthy Vice Chancellor, IUB, and Prof. Dr. Jawed Hassaan Chandio, Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages, a seminar on ‘’Indus Valley: Language & Culture’’ was organized on March 14, 2022. Riaz Hussain Khan Sindhar (Assistant Prof. Dept. of Saraiki) and Dr. Muhammad Mumtaz Khan (Assistant Professor Dept. of Saraiki) were the speakers on the occasion. The speakers discussed the linguistic and cultural contours of the region before and after the advent of Islam. They also explored the linguistic and traditional connections of the areas with Arab, Persian, and Turkish cultures. In his address, Prof. Dr. Jawed Hassaan Chandio, Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages shared his insights on patterns of similarities and differences that exist in different languages of the valley of seven rivers. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayub Jajja, Chairman, Dept. of English Literature, Dr. Ismat Durrani, Chairperson, Dept. of Persian, Dr. Muhammad Rafiq ul Islam, Incharge Dept. of Iqbal Studies and Ms. Maria Ansari, Principal University College of Art and Design also graced the occasion. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Riaz Hussain, Incarge Dept. of English Linguistics and focal person of the seminar.
Thanks to Almighty Allah, under the kind patronage of Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Worthy Vice Chancellor, IUB, and Prof. Dr. Jawed Hassaan Chandio, Dean Faculty of Arts, the Dept. of English Linguistics successfully organized a one-day colloquy on July 15, 2021, titled ''Policy Issues on Linguistics in Pakistan'. Linguists from eight national universities representing four provinces of Pakistan participated as panelists and contributed their insights on policy issues in the field. Prof. Dr. Asim Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, GC University, Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Sajida Zaki, Chairperson Department of Humanities NED UET, Karachi, Dr. Muhammad Shaban, Chairman Department of Linguistics and Communications, UMT Lahore, Ms. Aqsa Maryam, Chairperson Department of English BUITEMS, Quetta, Dr. Muhammad Asif, Head Department of English Ghazi University, DG Khan, Dr. Imdad Ullah Khan, Department of English & Foreign Languages, University of Sawat, KPK, Dr. Shahzad Karim, Department of English Linguistics IUB, Bahawalpur were the colloquy panelists.
Prof. Dr. Saiqa Asif Imtiaz, Worthy VC GSCW, Bahawalpur, and Prof. Dr. Mamuna Ghani, Director ETC, IUB were the guests of honors on the occasion. In the end, Dr. Riaz Hussain, the focal person of the virtual colloquy and in the Incharge Department of English Linguistics, IUB presented recommendations for the colloquy and gave the vote of thanks.
